Yes, it ended. I feared on and off throughout The Streak that it would end due to something that would really disappoint me….an injury, an illness or just plain forgetting. As it turned out it ended as a result of what was probably most logical, though never entered my mind until it ended – lack of desire to continue. Kind of pathetic, yes, but kind of natural I suppose. Was there more to it? Yeah, I guess…I was extremely sick, by a healthy person’s arrogant standards. I had the flu, spent the day struggling through mundane tasks and then just passed out around 7pm in a spell of dizziness and fatigue. But I woke up at 11pm and thought of The Streak right away….I still felt awful, but I could’ve run 1.2 miles, I’m fairly certain I could’ve done it without negatively affecting me in any way other than being miserable for 11 minutes or so. I just didn’t want to. I thought to myself, well, it had to end sometime, this is as good a time as any. My heart hadn’t been in it since I passed the 1 year mark…and probably before then – I think my inability to keep up with the various marathon plans I attempted to maintain throughout the year weighed on my feeble brain, I think I just didn’t look forward to it anymore…when it became a chore I wondered why I should continue, which is no way to go about streaking, but then, why stop I kept thinking….well, because I was sick, that seemed good enough at the time, so it’s over. Fat ladies can sing all they want now, please.
Thanks to all for reading (I have 2 followers), for caring if you cared, for the support of course…now I have to figure out what is next – I’d like to get back to running and have thought of it often, but I needed some time off and took it…then cracked some ribs (non-X-ray confirmed assumption) in a snow skiing accident (probably wouldn’t have happened if I’d been in shape!) and have been fairly well laid up from any activity since. I did however decide on a new thing to get excited about, do and maybe even write about, though it is not a streak. Would those of you reading (I assume maybe someone set up the auto-email function and never cut it off because why would you need to when I just stopped posting?) care to read about canoeing adventures in the Southeastern region of the United States of America?
Case and I had our first such adventure on Sunday January 13 and we’re looking forward to going out on the water again soon! Check out this picture:
Mr. Wein, congratulations on your streak, done though it is. I vote for further blogging, starting with the canoe adventuring.
ReplyDeleteThanks CMB, ask and you shall receive...sometimes at least: http://canoeadventureswithbobbywein.blogspot.com/
DeleteWow, what a depressing post. At least you ran a 2:59 marathon and punched your ticket to another Boston.
ReplyDeleteMiss ya man.
That's a great point, at least I have a 2:59 to my name and I can run Boston :) -- training to start soon!
