PUSH UP DAYS 364 and 365

205 Push ups

  • Saturday:   55 in 2 sets, 30 and 25
  • Sunday:     150 in 6 sets of 25 reps

Cumulative total:   31,775

Comments after extending the streak to 365 days:
  1. Much easier to maintain this streak than a running streak, but I think I was healthier through the push up streak...though my left shoulder started bothering me in the SLC airport 6 days ago, which I think just reconfirms how exhausted I was from skiing as I believe now that I must have slightly altered form and perhaps injurer myself in a minor way?
  2. Push ups did get easier through the year, though never exactly easy...guess I'll have to continue to pursue my goal of making them as minimally taxing as taking a walk, high volume should do that right?   Right?
  3. Averaging 87 per day for 1 year is pleasing to me, though now I want to average 113 for an additional 365 days so I can have an overall average of 100 per day...
  4. I really need to try a max set again as I haven't in a very long time.  
  5. I think I only almost forgot to do at least a streak extender set a few times actually and can only remember having to get up out of bed before midnight to extend the streak once. 
  6. The push up is a great overall exercise, elaborating a bit more on comment #1 above -- I'm in better shape than I would've expected and the very small volume required to continue the streak kept exercise on my mind making for nice easy returns to interest in fitness each time motivation took time off for a while, lazy sap that it is. 
  7. I should keep a count of number of different places I do push ups as I think that # from the past 365 days would be fairly large, but yeah, I probably won't do that.
  8. Kinda proud of myself for ending 365 days on Feb. 28 having started the streak on March 1...this means I don't need NEL to find a missed day anywhere, though I was comforted knowing that she could have.

Had to take a second streak extender day in a row yesterday as my struggle to recover from 2 days of skiing continues.   Taking this week easy as I try to get fired up for a decision Sunday, to train for a marathon or not...the answer is that I'm going to, but I have some work to do to get my mind right by Sunday so I can start in earnest on Monday.

Still suffering from ski days hangover, actually surprised at how exhausted I am, must do some plyometrics type stuff leading up to next ski trip, whenever that may be. 

Changing gears, considering marathon training again.   May target this marathon: http://www.xterraatlantic.com/big-elk.html but that only allows 15 week build up and taper, which may be pushing it considering my current mileage...15-20 miles per week maybe?   15 weeks means starting next week as this week it appears I will need to focus on recovery.   Prior to my ski trip 15 weeks would have seemed like enough time, but I'm feeling quite old today -- I wish I had taken a picture of my face yesterday morning, it made me think of this:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-kIxa0fDM0

Skied Saturday and Sunday https://www.snowbasin.com/, which revealed that I am not as young nor fit as I once was, I still love skiing and I need to do more lower back exercises.   Perfect conditions and push-ups while in a ski rental boot fitting area would be a fun new type location to keep track of and add to, though sadly not likely to be updated often.

Felt winded today for the first time in a while...may be recent running, may be too much other exercise stuff, who knows, maybe it was the golf on Monday, concern is that it could be all of those resulting in being over trained, which is generally horrible.   I hope that isn't the case as I'm very much looking forward to high altitude exercise in the form of skiing this weekend.

Also ran between 4-6 miles three of the above 4 days....unfortunately I have not added any pull ups since Friday due to my travel.   I actually brought my door frame pull up bar with me since I am traveling this week via car, but haven't found a doorway in the hotel that is even close to regular.   Very strange.

Attempt #2 at the self created 300/100 challenge within 1 hour.   Goal accomplished:  339/108  Started with pull ups this time, which I think made the difference...and I paid attention to rest periods making sure they weren't excessive.

Failed to run over the weekend, which is pretty weak, but maybe not as weak as my excuse -- that Becca made me stay out late going to a Mardi Gras ball.   I'll admit that the ball was fun, but I'll also reiterate that I hate to an extreme level feeling tired in my head.   I have read articles and one book that claimed you could train yourself to require less sleep.   The idea is very intriguing to me, but I am afraid to try it because I'm just not ready to believe in the concept...seems like a road to either long term health problems or a quick way to simply lower ones expectations with relation to what is considered feeling good.

Decided I would try to do 300 push ups and 100 pull ups in one hour, which seemed doable without being too devastating...well, I fell a few pull ups short and blame it on poor time management along with lack of self need to overcome that poor time management.  I came close enough (accomplishing the push ups and then doing 97 pull ups within allotted time) that I know it is doable, perhaps next time I try.
