Played 144 holes of golf on 8 different courses in Tennessee over the weekend, which was also exhausting, but it was intended to be as it is my once a year golf trip.

Comment:   Early summer I set a goal to reach 100k total push ups before my 45th birthday.  If memories serves I believe I needed to average 105 push ups per day to do so, which I have exceeded.  If it weren't for my 45 to 45 self challenge I would likely slow my pace a bit for a while.  [My 45 to 45 efforts have been disappointing thus far, by-the-way.   I think it has helped me choose what I 'should do' rather than what I 'want to do' a bit more, but my complete devotion to it and focus on it hasn't been as I originally intended...I think this confirms that a) I would have benefitted from a more detailed plan prior to starting, with tasks laid out for each day etc. b) I was probably too aggressive with my goals, as I often am.]

Today starts my 45 days of maximizing all minutes in each day until I turn 45, at which point I can just be slovenly for rest of my life.   Off to a good start...Short run, read 10% of an industry book, looked up how to do some of the other stuff I've settled on and since it just started I don't yet feel behind.   Best and funniest suggestion given to me (I only asked a few folks), was Case's suggestion:  "Don't yell at Mom for 45 days," followed sheepishly thereafter by "Don't yell at me and Finn for 45 days?"   Having committed to the first one I guess he was testing to see how far he could take it...I told him we'll see about the second one :), which I guess was a least better than yelling "GO TO YOUR ROOM!"  Full disclosure, we don't actually send out boys to their room, we send them to the guest room because it is both boring and otherwise completely unused.

Comment:    I guess it was an inevitable result of my pitiful efforts to keep this blog updated with regularity, but it finally happened...I lost track of at least a few days.  It seems only fair for me to count those days as streak extender only days as I know for certain I did at least the minimum each day, but it is disappointing as I'm certain I logged perhaps hundreds more ....oh well, means logging 100,000 may take a bit longer than otherwise, but that is many days away regardless.  On the positive side, my right shoulder issue seems to be slowly progressing and as a result I look forward to greater efforts, including a max single set effort that is long overdue.   Stay tuned.   UPDATE!   Well, as a result of being the luckiest person who has ever lived, I just found a temporary log I had missed accounting for days I was missing (March 9-15)...I have now updated the above to reflect accurately.  Yeah for me!  (Finding that note accounted for an additional 527 push ups, which is significant, if only to me, then seeing I was short of 77,000 total push ups by 14 push ups I did 14 push ups)

I honestly believed that my Atlanta Falcons could never hurt me like my Auburn Tigers often do.  I was prepared to enjoy the Super Bowl last night, I really wanted them to win, but I did not think for a second that I could possibly be devastated by them losing.   When I was a kid that was always possible, but once I latched on fully to the Auburn Tigers I had a solid 35 year run where they were the only football team that could gut me so completely that I'd wonder why I let myself get so crushed.  

I couldn't have been more wrong.   Feelings of anger, disbelief and embarrassment have been on rotation since the colossal collapse started mid-way through the 3rd quarter.  The choking was as thorough as any has ever been.  It was as if we tried to save ourselves from choking by swallowing wet couch cushions, then chasing them with balloons, new tennis balls directly out of the can and sandy soil.

I heard this morning that Warren Buffet suggests reading 500 pages a day.  He says that's what he averages.  Yeah, 500.   This made me realize that I never commented on one of my favorite yearly blog posts -- the Craig Brandenburg books read list, revealed in January of every year (or thereabouts).   I plan to go do that now...and I plan to get back into reading, which I listed as a new years resolution anyway.

I started doing P90X again, technically P90X3, which is noteworthy to people who are into it as it means I'm doing the shorter version workouts.  As a result I'm back to doing pull ups...I did 3,538 pull ups in 2016, technically I did all of those prior to August when I started babying my shoulder, so we'll see if I manage more this year or not.   As for push ups, I did 43,351 in 2016.  There were some pretty high volume stretches mixed in throughout the year, so not sure I'll do that many again this year, but we'll see, if I don't have any more skin cancer spots on my arms it will help.

Comment:   Stitches are out, one are push up days are over and I even got great news from a doctor friend who did some informal tests and gave his opinion that I have not torn anything in my right shoulder and can therefore resume any/all exercise I had been avoiding.   (He says I probably strained it and it may take as long as 9 months to fully recover, but I can't make it worse using it, so therefore I will.   As for how it happened, you're thinking too many push ups, but I truly believe it is a result of being ill-prepared to play disc golf as aggressively as I was about 3 months ago, anyway, back to pursuit of high volume push ups).

67,523   (less than 100 per day, which I intend to remedy  -- truth be known, I'm certain I did a number of uncounted sets of 25 during my overlong streak extender streak, so I probably never dropped below 100 per day, but this motivates me so I won't go back and try to put together the notes from the past 3 weeks to prove anything to myself.)
